7 May 2011,
Yesterday was the first race at the expanded Delbert's Memorial Raceway in Lakeport, Ca. We are only running the 250 this year. The day started with hot laps then qualifying (Sprint Car style - 2 Laps one kart at a time) then the heat and main. Eight 250's were on hand for the day. We were 4th quick in qualifying and then 2nd in the dash. We ran 4th in the heat and fourth in the main. Not a bad start to the season.
Delbert's has a new promoter who is continuously working on improvement to both the track and facility. The track has been lengthened about 25 or 30 feet (enough for a gear change), the surface while still abrassive is smoother and hay bailes have been placed around the fence in the corners. There are new grandstands and a basketball court with other playground equipment going in before the next race. There is also going to be a 20 x 400 foot tent down one side of the pits to pit under. They have a price for spectators now with the pits divided from that area so people can watch kart racing affordably without having to buy a pit pass.
Fuel rules are in effect (must buy and run the track fuel) and fuel will be tested and for now a 55 is required on the right rear.
This promoter is trying to improve what was started at Delberts and make it better for the families and the racers. The next race at Delberts is May 20th.
